Pyxida Fish Tavern at the beautiful Limassol Marina

Whatever comes out from the sea is what I vote for, the sea aura and saltiness of oceans gifts is exactly what I call it to be the food for Gods! In Cyprus the fish tavern is something very different from what you will find elsewhere, especially in Europe. Unavoidable I had to taste and criticize in the good sense of the meaning this brand new Fish Tavern at the heart of the new Limassol Marina prestigious area.

Literately right on the sea with vibrant yellowish and green colour gives you the feeling that this is not the cheapest place to have a lunch, but again it really attracts you to give it a try hoping that the food experience will worth that extra euro. By entering you really get very welcomed and escorted to your favourable or near favoured table, you have three choices of where you can sit, one is simply inside, at the front outside covered area, which is kind of windy or at the back which is covered by an electric plastic shaded tent and that is the Terrance with sea views and that is exactly where we have sat.

The waiter’s response was immediate offering the food and wine selection, to be honest we didn’t even looked at the food menu as for my critics I needed to see many dishes before my final verdict, so we went straight to the deep and order the full fish meze along with a nice fresh chilled Chablis white wine. The flow of the service was consistent, you really felt that you didn’t needed to worry about a thing rather enjoying the food and wine.

The Wine came along served for testing and then offered in the wine glasses, the starters and salad begun to arrive in about 7 minutes from the time the ordered was placed which that is a great time, some of the starters were the “tirokauteri” which is a mixture of cheese and spicy chilli and it really tasted pure homemade, something not very often as many restaurants hide behind the convenient of ready starters.

An another started that I have enjoyed was mashed eggplants with tomato and spices a really delicious companion with the traditional toasted bread on the table. The big score of the starters was for me the salad an excellent selection of radish leafs, tomato, cucumber and Greek feta, really one of the freshest salads I had here in Cyprus.

After 6-7 minutes the hot dishes begun to arrive and first of all the famous fish soup, something that I have not seen been served as part of the fish meze at any fish tavern that I have visited in Cyprus and although the colour of the soup was anything else than delicious the taste was actually good with chunks of fish meat, carrots, celery and different other spices, it was a really a not bad first dish.

Next the fried fish crockets, regarding the crockets although I do not appreciate in general the fried food the specific ones where freshly homemade with actual fish meat and nothing to do with the frozen ones we buy from the supermarket. Then a wave of dishes started to arrive dishes like, grilled sword fish “souvlaki” kebabs, grilled squid, boiled queen prawns, fried cod fish, fried red mullet, fried calamari, fried fresh potatoes with skin on and at the end a nice grilled porgy fish and at the end we were offered the dessert of the day which was an orange pie with a homemade mastic ice cream.

The food was fresh and tasty although I would prefer some of the dishes instead of fried to be grilled , as an example the calamari , also extremely intense was the absence of the grilled octopus and which I would highly recommend to replace the fried cod fish with the octopus , it is a really pity.

The verdict is that the Pyxida Fish Tavern at the Limassol Marina really beats the 80% of the other fish taverns in Limassol, but still there is a room of improvement as with a bill of 90 euro for two persons you really expect perfection, if I would recommend this to a friend? Yes absolutely but with some cautions on the price tag, in general the area is great, the service is fantastic and the food fresh and plenty, now the big question is , would I go there again then the answer is definitely yes!
